Brief History & Philosophy

Established in 2004 as Kohimarama Montessori Preschool, our centre has a proud heritage of child-led learning. Under new ownership in 2025, we continue to provide outstanding early childhood education, now with a fresh, modern approach that embraces the best of play-based and inquiry learning.

Current Philosophy

Our program is guided by Te Whāriki (NZ’s ECE curriculum) – we believe in empowering children to explore, create, and build confidence at their own pace.

Our day is filled with free play, group time, music and outdoor exploration. We follow a regular routine, morning circle, kai/meal times, nap/rest, that provides children security while offering variety and engaging learning experiences.

We were founded in 2004 as Kohimarama Montessori Preschool, which explains our domain name. Under new ownership in 2025, we now offer a progressive play-based approach that encourages child-led learning, independence and creativity while following New Zealand’s Te Whāriki curriculum.
